El Espacio Mónica García para Creadores abre sus puertas en la calle Piamonte 19 de Madrid. Para el estreno, nuestros artículos compartirán espacio con los de A y L del 14 de diciembre al 5 de enero.

Wooden Houses

Hace dos veranos hicimos una maqueta en madera de cada una de los modelos que forman el estampado "Casas". Estas piezas son las que utilizamos más tarde para la imagen gráfica de la colección.

We made these mock-ups in wood two years ago. Each one of them represents an element in the "Casas" print. They were later used as the graphic ID of the collection promo.

Tras el éxito que han tenido las veces que las hemos mostrado, el pasado puente de todos los Santos Julia volvió al taller para fabricar otro pueblecito de madera, esta vez más grande y utilizando maderas viejas y de distintas procedencias.

Cada casa es distinta, y está hecha a mano. De momento la mayoría están expuestas en Raasta, y si queréis podéis comprarlas, aunque a decir verdad, y esto no está bien decirlo... ¡nos da pena que se vendan!  

Due to the great feedback we´ve received every time we have showed them around, Julia decided to go back to the workshop and create another "village" in wood at a slightly bigger scale, this time using diverse types of wood from various origins. Every house is totally different and hand made. They are being exhibited at Raasta at the moment and you can purchase them if you wish; however, to be honest, we´d rather love not to sell them!!!

 

 

Para esta nueva tirada Julia contó con la ayuda de su padre, perfecto compañero de taller, y lo pasaron en grande, porque además de agotar a sierra de calar tuvieron tiempo de hacer excursiones por los alrededores, a la caza de trozos de madera desechados, pero también de casas abandonadas de verdad...

Julia´s dad was helping out in the making of this new run of houses. He behaved as a perfect work mate and both of them enoyed it a lot because they even found time for short trips in the surroundings of the workshop, searching loose pieces of wood and real abandoned houses.

y otra curiosidad que hemos descubierto gracias a la talentosa Miss Capricho: Hermés tiene mucho que agradecer a la princesa, ya que cuando se fracturó el brazo decidió llevar uno de sus pañuelos a modo de cabestrillo, lo que multiplicó las ventas en aquel momento...  

and one more thing we have just found out via Miss Capricho: Hermes was lifted to new heights when Grace Kelly wore one of their scarves as a sling when she broke her arm, suddenly Hermes scarves were in huge demand...

Obra gráfica sobre papel

Hace ya casi 5 años que Julia comenzó a realizar composiciones basadas en el sistema modular. Para ello creó a mano unos sellos y fue jugando de manera casi obsesiva con la repetición, las diferentes disposiciones entre ellos y la manera en la que intervenía el color… De esta técnica nos encanta cómo influye la transparencia cuando se superponen varias piezas, y el movimiento que aporta la imperfección del factor manual.

It´s been almost 5 years since Julia started to work on module based designs. She first made some stamps and played around with them like crazy, trying different layouts, diverse ways of mixing them with colours... What we like most about the final result is how the transparency works when printing some pieces on top of the others and also that certain sense of movement that the imperfection adds.

Al fin nos hemos decidido a que salgan del estudio, hemos enmarcado algunas y de momento las podéis encontrar en Raasta o en nuestra tienda on-line.

Los marcos son de haya natural, y hemos colocado la lámina entre doble cristal, así queda enmarcada por el fondo de la pared de cada uno...

We have finally decided to take them out of the studio, we have framed some of them and they are currently on sale at Raasta and our on-line store.

Modos de llevar un pañuelo IX

Algo que siempre nos ha encantado es la manera en la que incorporaban el pañuelo en sus atuendos las mujeres trabajadoras del campo o habitantes de poblaciones rurales.
Además es sorprendente que el pañuelo es un elemento adoptado como parte de la vestimenta en  países y regiones muy diferentes entre sí, pero observamos que se repiten dos maneras de usarlo: sobre los hombros y cubriendo la cabeza. Dejando a un lado temas religiosos, suponemos que recurrieron a él como prenda práctica para resguardarse del frío,  o por comodidad, para retirar y proteger el cabello mientras trabajaban... pero también nos gusta pensar que los lucían porque los estampados y bordados hechos por ellas mismas alegraban las vestimentas,  además de aportarles personalidad ya que muchas veces debía ser el único elemento diferenciador. Este es un tema que nos encantaría conocer a fondo, y ni que decir tiene que fue de total inspiración para la sesión fotográfica de los pañuelos "Casas".

We have always loved the way scarves were traditionally part of the everyday outfit for women in farms or just living in the countryside.
It is also quite surprising to find out that scarves have been adopted as part of the traditional dress code in regions and countries very distant to each other. There are two very popular and repeated ways of using the scarf: over the shoulders or covering the head. Our guess is that, apart from religious issues, women started using the scarves to fight the cold temperatues or just to keep their long hair away from the face while working... we´d also like to believe that they sported these scarves feeling happy about the designs and embroiderings they had made themselves... adding their own signature and style to their otherwise plain and even outfits. We´d love to learn more about this theme that obviously inspired our shooting of the Casas scarves collection.

Making-of. Single

Ibon y Teresa son Single, nuestro grupo favorito. Como también son muy majos se prestaron de muy buena gana a posar para la sesión de fotos de los pañuelos Casas que hicimos con Rosa. ¡Y están geniales! Esta es una foto que no seleccionamos para el editorial final pero que nos gusta mucho.

Ibon and Teresa are Single, our favourite band. They are also so nice that agreed to pose for our Casas scarves shooting that Rosa did. They look great! This picture was finally not picked for the editorial but we still love it.

Single están de enhorabuena porque presentan nuevo disco, y nosotros también porque es tan bueno que no podemos quitárnoslo de la cabeza...

Single are now on tour presenting their new album. Its so good that we can´t get it out of our heads...

SuTurno en Raasta

Así de bonitos se exponen nuestros artículos en Raasta gracias al talento que tiene Laura para hacer que todo reluzca. La verdad es que junto a los muebles de Ciszak Dalmas y los collares de A ¡forman un conjunto perfecto!

Our products are so nicely displayed in Raasta; this is thank to the great ability that Laura shows to make everything shine. In fact, our stuff looks great next to Ciszak Dalmas furniture and the necklaces by A.

Por cierto, la fiesta del sábado no pudo salir mejor, estamos contentísimos... ¡gracias a todos por venir y ser tan amables! En Facebook hemos creado un album de fotos para que os veáis, una pena que la cámara se quedó sin batería y hay algunos que faltáis para el recuerdo. 

Después de una acogida tan buena hemos decidido ampliar la producción de los pañuelos y cojines porque ¡se nos están agotando!

By the way, our Saturday party couldnt have been any better, we are so happy... Thanks everybody for turning up and being so kind! We have uploaded the photos on our Facebook profile so you can see yourselves, a shame the camera run off battery and some of you couldnt join our album of memories...
After such a great welcoming we have decided to work on a second run of scarves and cushions, the current stock is about to sell out!

Los que no pudísteis estar el sábado no os preocupéis, las cosas seguirán en Raasta por lo menos durante un par de semanas más, si queréis hacerles una visita por el Callejón de Jorge Juan, Raquel y Rebeca estarán encantadas de atenderos.

Those of you that couldn´t make it on Saturday, don´t worry, our stuff will still be available at Raasta
for two more weeks at least. If you happen to pop in the Callejon de Jorge Juan, Raquel and Rebeca will be delighted to help you.
